The writing lab is located in study room #282 in
the library (the first study room just around the corner from the
check-out desk). The schedule for spring 2005 is shown below (each
time slot is generally for one hour, beginning at the time shown).
(For example: on Monday at 9am, Jo would be available in the
library from 9am until 10am).
Any student who needs
feedback or specific help on a paper (for any course) is welcome.
Please bring your assignment and specific questions,
so writing center personnel are better able to assist you. When
faculty are scheduled, please go to their offices
as indicated on the schedule. See
additional policies below.

-
Come to the lab prepared with the following:
-
A reasonably polished and typed draft.
-
The guideline for the assignment.
-
A written statement of help needed (For example, I
need help with punctuation in paragraph two or I need help with the
introduction and thesis statement.) Use the forms available in the
Writing Center.
-
Staff/faculty can offer general suggestions to help
you clarify focus, organization, development of ideas, style and
mechanics.
-
While staff can help with writing, but not
necessarily on specific content of papers (i.e., history,
philosophy papers, research on topics staff is unfamiliar with). For
help with specific content, please see your instructor.
-
Staff (including English faculty) will point to the
kinds of errors most evident in your work and will help you learn
how to correct them. They are not responsible for correcting all
errors. Your progress is the central concern.
-
The Writing Center cannot help with take-home exams
or with either midterm or final exam papers or projects, including
final portfolios.
-
For additional help, contact the
Online Writing Lab
(OWL) at UWC-Waukesha. You can email your draft to them, state
the kind of help needed and they will give you suggestions via
email, usually within 48 hours. Brochures explaining OWL's policies
and procedures are available in the library.
