Shortcuts in Word

If you want to find something special hit Ctrl F, and then type it what you are looking for.

File Shortcuts

  • New (Ctrl+N) - Opens a New Document
  • Close (Ctrl+W) - Closes the document
  • Open (Ctrl+O) - Opens a Saved Document
  • Save (Ctrl+S) - Saves a Document
  • Save As (F12) - Brings up the 'Save As' box
  • Print (Ctrl+P) - Prints the Document
  • Undo (Ctrl+Z) - Undoes your last action
  • Repeat (Ctrl+Y) - Repeats your last action
  • Cut (Ctrl+X) - Cuts selected text / object (so it can be moved)
  • Copy (Ctrl+C) - Copies text / object to clipboard
  • Paste (Ctrl+V) - Pastes whatever is on clipboard into document
  • Select All (Ctrl+A) - Selects everything in the document
  • Find (Ctrl+F) - Finds a word or phrase
  • Replace (Ctrl+H) - Use this to replace one word with another word

Insert Shortcuts

  • Page break (Ctrl+Enter) - Inserts a Page Break
  • Page Numbers (Alt+Shift+P) - Inserts page number where your cursor is
  • Insert Auto text (Alt+F3) - Changes selected text to auto text (also allows you to nominate a code for the auto text)Formatting Shortcuts
  • Bold (Ctrl+B) - Bolds selected text
  • Italics (Ctrl+I) - Italicizes selected text
  • Underline (Ctrl+U) - Underlines selected text
  • Double Underline (Ctrl+Shift+D) - Double Underlines selected text
  • Left align (Ctrl+Q) - Left Aligns text
  • Center (Ctrl+E) - Centers text
  • Right align (Ctrl+R) - Right aligns text text
  • Justify (Ctrl+J) - Justifies selected text
  • Font Size (Ctrl+Shift+P) - Changes font size
  • Font Style (Ctrl+Shift+F) - Changes font
  • Superscript (Ctrl+=) - Superscripts selected characters
  • Subscript (Ctrl+Shift+=) - Subscripts selected characters
  • Shrink (Ctrl+[) - Shrinks selected text by one point
  • Single Line Spacing (Ctrl+1) - Spacing of selected text goes back to single line
  • Double Line Spacing (Ctrl+2) - Spacing of selected text goes to double line
  • 1.5 Line Spacing (Ctrl+5) - Text spacing goes to one and a half lines
  • Grow (Ctrl+]) - Grows selected text by one pointTools Shortcuts

  • Thesaurus (Shift+F7) - Brings up the Thesaurus
