Children’s
Summer Dance Camp at UW-Washington County
It’s
a natural combination – music, kids and moving around. Add some
technique and grace and you have a summer ballroom dancing program,
sponsored by UW-Washington County’sContinuing Education Program.
Open to students in grades 5 through 8, the four-day camp runs
Monday, August 7 through Thursday, August 10 from 10am until noon.
Classes will be held in the campus cafeteria and will be taught by
dance instructor, Michael Mattek. The fee is $65 per student for the
entire series and is limited to 20 students.
The
summer series includes Cha-Cha on Monday, Swing on Tuesday, Tango on
Wednesday and a review of all dances with a dance party theme on
Thursday. As shown in the documentary, Mad Hot Ballroom
(an after school program in New York City) and as demonstrated in
dance studios every Saturday morning in Milwaukee, kids love
ballroom dancing as much as the “old” people do! Ballroom dancing
classes for adults will return in the fall at UW-Washington County
and will be held on Monday evenings. Mike Mattek will be the
instructor for these classes also. Mike has taught ballroom and
social dancing at various dance studios in the Milwaukee area for
several years.
