Calling all Scientists in grades 5th-8th grade!!!

Join the University's “CSI Team” and study clues to help solve the Cookie Jar Mystery!!

This intriguing and exciting course combines science learning with fun.  Participants will use real laboratory techniques and materials, create theories about the “crime,” and test their hypotheses like scientists.

Participants experience science in an authentic hands-on environment that explains the use of evidence, models, tools, and techniques in science inquiry.  Students will analyze hair and pollen samples, investigate fiber samples, study blood types, and learn about DNA profiling.

In the culminating activity, students analyze their findings, and-using deductive reasoning-point their fingers at the guilty party.

Applying real laboratory techniques, students form teams to analyze race evidence, unknown substances, handwriting, fingerprints, and even shoe prints left at the crime scene.

They will test their powers of observation and use lie detection techniques as they examine written statements by each suspect.

A fun and exciting class that is sure to spark your child’s interest in science!

Follow-up mock jury trial course consisting of a prosecution team, defense team, and judge examining the evidence collected throughout the investigation is being offered too!
