Types of Financial Aid Available

NEED BASED PROGRAMS

You must demonstrate eligibility
by completing and filing the
FAFSA
(Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

NON-NEED BASED PROGRAMS

Financial aid programs not based on need
are also available. You do not need to demonstrate eligibility, but you must complete and file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

                     GRANTS

Grants are need-based aid and do not need to be repaid (unless the student withdraws from school prior to a specified date).  The amount of grant will depend on the financial need, availability of funds and specific federal, state and institutional awarding policies.

  • Pell Grants – Federal grant.
  • Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)  – Federal Grant.  Awarded to Pell grant eligible students who are U.S. citizens, enrolled full-time in the first or second year of a degree program, and have completed a rigorous high school program of study as defined by the Department of Education.
  • Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG) – Federal Grant.
  • Wisconsin Higher Education Grants (WHEG) – State Grant.
  • Indian Grants are available to students who are at least one-fourth native American.
  • Talent Incentive Program Grants (TIP) are available disadvantaged Wisconsin residents based on specific eligibility criteria.
  • Wisconsin Handicapped Grants are state awards to Wisconsin residents who have an auditory or visual impairment.
  • Minority Grants are available through the UW System for WI residents who are of African-American, Hispanic, Native American, or Southeast Asian heritage.  These grants are based on both financial need and academic merit.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships are available through the UW-Washington County Campus Foundation  (WCCF) and other private sources. 

WCCF scholarships are funded through the generous support of area business, individuals, civic organizations and trusts.  Over $130,000 in scholarships are awarded each year.

Scholarships are available for:

          * New students
          * Currently enrolled/Returning students
          * Transferring students
 
Just one application is needed. You will be considered for all eligible scholarships.

             NEED-BASED LOANS

Loans are awards that must be repaid. The subsidized loans are need-based and do not accrue interest until the student either drops below 6 credits, or withdraws from any semester.   

  • Federal Perkins Loan
  • Subsidized Stafford Loan

           NON-NEED BASED LOANS

Unsubsidized loans accrue interest while the student is in school.

  • Parent PLUS Loan
  • Unsubsidized Stafford Loan

You do not need to demonstrate eligibility, but you must complete and file the FAFSA.

        STUDENT EMPLOYMENT

The Federal Work Study program offers part-time employment on the student's financial aid award letter. 

            STUDENT EMPLOYMENT

Employment is also available for students who may not have applied for financial aid or students not offered work-study on their award letter.
