BA – Organizational Administration
From administration and management to human resources, a major in Organizational Administration is the preparation you need to be successful in today's businesses and organizations. The good news is that you can earn this UW-Milwaukee bachelor's degree while attending classes right here in West Bend - a combination of face-to-face instructors and online classes.
The Organizational Administration degree is an interdisciplinary major that draws upon a wide-range of academic areas. The primary components of the major include: economics, communication, English, sociology and a research methodology course.
Each component of the degree was selected to offer a balanced program of studies that would provide students with the background necessary to succeed in a broad spectrum of professions.
Fifty-one credits are required for the BAOA major (27 credits are upper division).
Economics
Economics teaches how to analyze the effect of resources on social or business problems and propose policies that will create the best use of resources in dealing with those problems. Courses include:
- Principles of Microeconomics
- Principles of Macroeconomics
- Economic Statistics
- Labor Problems
- (choose one) Money & Banking, International Economic Relations, or Economics of Human Resources
Communication
Communication is the study of human symbolic behavior, Students will learn how to become more skillful at understanding and using communication in business, education, and social settings. Courses include:
- Introduction to Interpersonal Communication
- Public Speaking
- Business and Professional Communication
- Interviews and Interviewing
- Communication in Organizations
English
English is the study of literature and language. Emphasis is placed on the development of effective written communication skill. Courses include:
- Business Writing
- (choose one) Advanced Writing Workshop or Advanced Technical Writing
Sociology
Sociology is the study of human behavior within or affected by groups. Students learn to observe, analyze and understand behavior between individuals, within groups, and in relation to major and complex institutions. Courses include:
- (choose one) Introduction to Sociology or Introduction to Social Psychology
- Industrial Sociology
- Small Groups
Research Methodology
Research Methodology provides students the background necessary to conduct, analyze and evaluate issues using scientific methodology. Students may choose research coursework from the areas of psychology, sociology or communication. Choose one of the following:

- Quantitative Research in Communication
- Research Methods in Sociology
- Research Methods in Psychology
Capstone Course
- Three credits of advanced level coursework taken during the last year of study.
Business Minor
The UW-Milwaukee School of Business offers a minor in Business that students may incorporate into this program. Upon completion of major and minor coursework, students will have satisfied application requirements for most MBA programs, (19 credits required beyond the major. Courses required for the minor may be taken concurrently with courses required for the major.)
