For a complete description of all academic regulations,
please refer to the current UW Colleges Catalog available from the
Student Services Office or request copy
online.
Adding Courses
You may add a course or courses online
at any time up until the first day of classes via the “Add a Class”
function in
PRISM.
You may also add a course or courses by completing the appropriate
Change of Program Form and returning it to the Student Services
Office during the first two weeks for a semester-length course,
during the first week of an eight-week course, and during the first
4 days of a five-week course. The instructor's signature is
required. The date the form is received in the Office of Student
Services is the effective date used for official records and
billing.
First Day Drop Policy
The University of Wisconsin-Washington County (UWWC)
has adopted a policy that allows a student to be administratively
dropped from a course if:
- Student does not attend the first scheduled session
of that course AND
- Student has not notified the instructor prior to
the class period that he/she will be absent.
To notify the instructor: phone (262) 335-5200 and
ask to have a message placed in the instructor's mailbox.
Important: It is the student’s responsibility
to make sure he/she has been dropped from a course. This is especially
true for students enrolled in any distance education course or in
courses listed as “TBA.” Contact the Student Services
Office at (262) 335-5201 if you have questions.
Dropping Courses
You may drop a course or courses online at any time up until the
first day of classes via the “Drop a Class” function in
PRISM. You may
also drop a course or courses by completing the
Change of Program Form and returning it to the Student Services
Office during the first 10 weeks of a semester-long course, during
the first five weeks of an eight-week course, and during the first
3 weeks plus 1 day of a five-week course. The instructor's signature
is required.
If you fail to complete the drop procedure and simply
stop attending class, you will receive an official grade of F. The
date you return the completed drop form to the Office of Student
Services is the effective date used for official records and billing
purposes.
The last day to drop a course without record is the
first two weeks of the semester for semester-long courses and first
week of the session for 10-week, 8-week and 5-week courses. A grade of W will be recorded on your official record
if you drop a course after this time.
Repeating Courses
You may repeat courses to improve your GPA or to
improve your foundations before taking succeeding courses in a discipline.
Students need to indicate a repeat on their registration or program
change form.
Auditing
NOTE: Distance Education
courses may not be audited per UW System policy. Individuals wishing
to only audit courses will not be allowed to register until the
first class session. You may change from audit to credit status
during the same period allowed for adding a course, and you may
change from credit to audit during the period allowed for dropping
a course. You may take a previously audited course for credit. Audit-only
students will be assessed a portion of the instructional fee; refer
to the tuition/fee page in this schedule for details or contact
the Business Office. Audited courses carry no degree credit and
do not count toward your GPA. Nor do they count toward full-time
attendance for purposes such as certification for Veterans Administration
benefits or insurance.
Withdrawal
Withdrawal is termination of your registration in
all courses for the semester. You must complete the official withdrawal
process in any of the three ways outlined below no later than:
- The end of the 10th week of a semester-long course
- The end of the 5th week of an eight-week class,
- The end of the 3rd week plus 1 day for a 5-week
course.
If you do not withdraw in any of the ways stated above,
you will receive grades in all courses for which you were registered.
Non-attendance does not constitute official withdrawal. You may
officially withdraw from the university in one of the following
3 ways::
Withdrawal Form
Submitting a completed Withdrawal Form to the
Office of Student Services. The effective date of withdrawal will
be the date this form is received in the Student Services Office.
Letter
Directing a dated letter with signature to the
Office of Student Services stating your desire to withdraw. The postmark
date will be used to determine the effective date of withdrawal. This
letter must be postmarked no later than the end of the 10th week of
classes. (NOTE: A two-day grace period will be allowed to accommodate
rural postal dispatches.)
Telephone call
If this option is utilized, the date of the call will
be used as the effective date of withdrawal. The call must be followed
by a signed letter-of-authorization postmarked within two (2) days
of making the call. If the letter is not postmarked within two days
of making the call, the postmark date will determine the effective
date of withdrawal.
Credit Load
As a freshman or sophomore, you may enroll in up
to 18 credits during the fall or spring semester. Special status
students, high school special students and high school students
participating in the Youth Options Program will be limited to six
credits per semester. Credit restrictions also may be imposed on
students designated high risk.
Pass/Fail
You may enroll in courses on a pass/fail basis. This
option allows you to explore a field or subject without worrying
about the letter grade you earn. Only the elective courses which
apply toward an associate degree may be taken as pass/fail. Instructors
assign final grades of S (pass) and U (fail) for courses taken on
a pass/fail basis. The results of any pass/fail course will not
affect your GPA.
All students may elect one pass/fail course each semester,
including Summer Session. You may elect two pass/fail courses as
a freshman and two as a sophomore. You must decide whether to take
a pass/fail course during the time period allowed for adding a course.
You may not change a course either to or from pass/fail after the
deadline for adding a course. Since most universities do not allow
pass/fail courses to count toward either a major or general studies
requirement, you should not, if you are undecided about your major,
take any courses on a pass/fail basis which might later meet degree
requirements in your major field.
Independent Study
Students wishing to enroll in an independent study
must meet with the faculty member with whom the independent study
will be completed. The student and faculty member must complete
an independent study form (available from the faculty or from the
Student Services Office) and submit the form to the Student Services
Office when registering for the course.
Mid-Term and Final Grades
You will receive mid-term grades, informing you of
your progress, by the end of the ninth week of classes. You may
pick up your mid-term grades from the Student Services Office.
Final grades must be reported by your instructor
within four working days after the final exam. Final grades are
available on PRISM. Notification of
any probationary or suspension action will be on the grade report.
Grading System
Specific information about the grading system can
be found in the current UW Colleges catalog available from the Student
Services Office. |
