University of Wisconsin Washington County The Constitution of the Washington County Youth Orchestra WCYO

We, the members of the Washington County Youth Orchestra, herein called simply WCYO, of the University of Wisconsin-Washington County, herein called simply UWWC, have formed an organization of persons interested in the performance of music for the symphony orchestra. This club will operate as a cohesive unit in organizing events, conferencing, fund-raising, scholarships, and traveling. The primary goal is to perform quality music while being inclusive and respectful of all musicians’ abilities.
Article 1 Name1.1. This organization shall be called “The Washington County Youth Orchestra”. In addition, the orchestra will be known as the WCYO, since it is more general. For the remainder of this constitution, the orchestra will be referred to as WCYO. 1.2. The logo will include the words “Washington County Youth Orchestra” or “WCYO”, as at the top of this document.
Article 2 Function and PurposeThe function and purpose of WCYO will be:2.1. To provide qualified students with the opportunity to play in a full orchestra 2.2. To present high quality concerts 2.3. To have section coaches to help enrich the members’ experience 2.4. To give students a challenging and well-rounded musical experience 2.5. To encourage creativity and curiosity in music for orchestra
Article 3 Membership 3.1. Student membership 3.1.1. Eligibility shall include any student through high school who passes the audition 3.1.2. Auditions will be held every year in late June 3.1.3. The limit to the total number of musicians will be limited by need 3.1.4. In the event of an opening, a special audition will be arranged 3.2. Coaches 3.2.1. Shall be chosen by the Conductor 3.2.2. Duties 3.2.2.1. Conduct sectionals 3.2.2.2. Mark bowings and articulations 3.3. Leadership 3.3.1. There will a Conductor and a Director 3.3.2. The Conductor will be a member of the music faculty/staff at UWWC 3.3.3. The Director may be a non-university affiliated individual 3.4. Members’ duties: 3.4.1. All members’ primary goal must be to put on high-quality concerts 3.4.2. All members are encouraged to suggest and help in organizing activities and events 3.4.3. All student members are expected to attend all rehearsals 3.4.3.1. Members will be asked to re-audition for the following season if they miss two rehearsals without notice 3.4.4. All student members must be prepared for rehearsals 3.4.4.1. If members fail to perform at an acceptable level, a re-audition may be required for the following season 3.4.5. Coaches will assist in preparing music for students 3.4.6. Coaches will lead their sections
Article 4 Ethics 4.1. All members are expected to adhere to and obey all laws concerning copyright and distribution of software 4.2. All members are considered equal
Article 5 Rehearsals 5.1. Rehearsals will occur once weekly or as needed 5.1.1. Rehearsals will be held at UWWC 5.1.2. Rehearsals will be held Saturdays between 9:00am and noon 5.2. Shall be conducted with the discretion of the Conductor
Article 6 Executive meetings 6.1. Shall be held at the discretion of either the Conductor or the Director
Article 7 Officers 7.1. The officers of Bytehead, known as the “Executive Board”, shall include: 7.1.1. Conductor 7.1.2. Director 7.1.3. Director of Continuing Education at UWWC 7.2. Tenure 7.2.1. In the event that a vacancy exists in the Executive Board, the remaining members must be in unanimous agreement with a candidate 7.2.2. In the event of a vacancy: 7.2.2.1.If the Conductor leaves 7.2.2.1.1. One of the coaches will be asked to conduct rehearsals 7.2.2.1.2. Selection of a new Conductor 7.2.2.1.2.1.Will take place as soon as possible 7.2.2.1.2.2.May depend on the selection process of UWWC 7.2.2.2.If the Director leaves 7.2.2.2.1. The Conductor and Director of Continuing Education at UWWC shall share the Director’s responsibilities 7.2.2.2.2. Selection for Director must take place within one month 7.2.2.3.If the Director of Continuing Education at UWWC leaves 7.2.2.3.1. The Conductor and Director shall share responsibilities 7.2.2.3.2. Selection of a new Director of Continuing Education at UWWC will depend on the selection process of UWWC Article 8 Duties of officers 8.1. The officers are co-equal 8.1.1. Each can be the official representative of WCYO to any other organization or person 8.2. The Conductor shall 8.2.1. Conduct WCYO concerts 8.2.2. Lead rehearsals 8.2.3. Be the official representative of WCYO to UWWC 8.2.4. Choose the repertoire 8.2.5. Assist in the audition selections 8.2.6. Keep the Constitution, as approved by the Executive Board, current 8.3. The Director shall 8.3.1. Coordinate the audition process by 8.3.1.1.Contacting school orchestra and band leaders 8.3.1.2.Organizing school visits 8.3.1.3.Contacting music business 8.3.2. Keep an accurate record of attendance at rehearsals of student musicians and coaches 8.3.3. Handle written or verbal correspondence and keep an archive of all outreaches and activities sponsored by WCYO 8.3.4. Assist in the audition selections 8.4. The Director of Continuing Education at UWWC shall 8.4.1. Collect all funds, including dues, and deposit them at UWWC’s Business Manager’s Office 8.4.2. Perform the duties the Director of Continuing Education at UWWC
Article 9 Bylaws and Amendments 9.1. This constitution, together with its by-laws, shall be considered the basis of WCYO 9.2. The Executive Board of WCYO shall review the Constitution when necessary 9.3. Amendments 9.3.1. Will be ratified with a majority vote of the Executive Board 9.3.2. Will be implemented immediately |
