Fundamentals of Music

MUS170 Lec 01

11:00 - 11:50 a.m. MWF

Fall Semester, 2007

Description

Fundamentals of Music is an introduction to music course that has a Service Learning component to it.  Through lectures, rehearsals, conducting, and performance, you will begin to understand music in its notation and performing environments.  You will get to know the piano, the recorder, percussion instruments, your voice (yes, your voice), and other instruments quite well.  We will also listen to some examples of music when necessary.  Rehearsing music requires you to know how to stand up in front of a group and lead them.  You will therefore learn how to conduct, too.  The service learning components will be a Kindergarten concert at the end of the semester, followed by a class discussion of the Kindergarten concert.

Your fellow students are counting on you at each of your rehearsals.  Missing rehearsals puts unnecessary stress on your group.  Therefore, absences affect your grade according to the scale at left.

2.       Play recorder in another song

3.       Conduct your song.

4.       Participate in one or more other songs.

The concert will be held in the UWWC auditorium on Friday, December 21, at 10:30 a.m.  It will last about forty-five minutes.

Nice pants or skirt (knee length) - NO capris, shorts, or jeans

No tennis shoes or sandals

Guys:
